What I consider the most valuable thing in my life has changed several times - currently, I find it to be people who love me and whom I love and trust - Their love (and God’s) allows me to do everything I need to do in life - What’s Yours?
Body vs Soul
Aug 21
Are we more concerned with the health of our bodies than our souls? Should we be?
I recently posted an article by Ralph Waldo Emerson that explains what he believed constituted success. Success means different things to different people. To me, it means becoming the kind of person I would be proud to present to my Creator, when that time comes. What is your definition of “success”?
Many of us have reached the age where we have raised our kids and probably had some kind of career. In other words, we have made our mark. Many of us are retired, semi-retired, or contemplating retirement. So what will that mean to us? Will we end up sitting around watching television all day, or worse, sitting around drinking beer and watching television all day? Will we be waiting for something to happen, even if it’s our eventual demise?
The sad thing is that this seems to happen way too often with greybeards at a time in life when we have much more to offer than a friendly knee for the grandkids or a little light conversation over coffee. We have wisdom; hard-earned insights into what makes life worth living. And much of that wisdom is being wasted at a time when the world needs it so badly.
What do you think we should be doing with the rest of our time on earth?
Losing a Loved One
Jun 29
Many of us have lost loved ones to disease, crime, war, and accidents. Regardless of the cause, the pain is the same and each personal trajedy leaves us with an emptiness and a yearning for answers.
I personally lost my seventeen year old son to a murder’s bullet a few years ago. It was the most difficult period of my life and having a friend who had gone through a similar event helped.
Perhaps we can help each other by sharing our wisdom about how to deal with such tragedies.
Wisdom Topic #1

We obviously (at least in America) live in a society that values youth (or at least the appearance of it) above wisdom. IMHO, that is a significant loss for our country. The value of experience and hard-won wisdom is incalculable and the denigration of it reflects a culture on the decline. The Greybeards of our society have much to offer to our country, our leadership forums, and each individual in our lives.
So what is the best way to leverage the wisdom of our elders to improve our society in general?
